Edmonton Road Runners:

Edmonton Road runners were the ice hockey team based on Edmonton who played the American Hockey League in the year 2003 to 2005. The Road Runners played hockey in Edmonton for Edmonton Oilers in some seasons. Although the side proved highly victorious at the gate, ended third in the AHL in audience at 8,854 fans per match in spite of an unsatisfactory season plagued by injury, the squad announced on June 6, 2005 that they were requesting authorization from the American Hockey League to dangle team operations. The pronouncement was likely goaded by the improving lockout negotiations and the widespread belief that the Oilers would be back for the 2005–06 season, which was inveterate when the owners and players agreed on July 13, 2005 to a new six-year collective bargaining agreement.  The road runners were very unstable and the players were double minded in playing hockey in Edmonton. The load runner franchise has shifted from hand to hands and finally ended currently as Oklahoma City Barons.
