In order to achieve the overall objective, the effort of the AGENT-DYSL decomposes into the following detailed objectives, the majority of which deals with the introduction of the advanced technological features into the intelligent assistive reading system: By M24, all the modules will be integrated, making it possible to start the evaluation with the users. The final system which incorporates the feedback from the evaluation will be available at the end of the project (M36). Objective 1. Design of intelligent assistive reading system. The architecture of the intelligent reading system and its content presentation module will be developed. The system’s architecture will provide the mechanisms for incorporating data capturing facilities, automatic user modelling, on-line adaptation to user’s state and user progress monitoring. The objective will be achieved by 12. Objective 2. Automatic user-progress monitoring. The mechanisms for automatic user-progress monitoring will be designed and implemented. The intelligent reading system will be able to keep an accurate record of the users’ performance. This will be achieved by having the user “reading to the system” and the system recognising what is read and detecting discrepancies. Speech recognition will be done in 3 languages; first in English and then in Danish and Greek. The objective will be achieved by M24. Continouous refinement through evaluation of the objectives will carry on until M36. Objective 3. Automatic user modelling. The mechanisms for automatic user modelling will be designed and implemented. Based on a model built for each individual user, the intelligent reading system will predict the reading errors the user is likely to make. User modelling will be dynamic so that improvements to the users’ fluency are taken into account and the user model is appropriately updated. The objective will be achieved by M24. Continouous refinement through evaluation of the objectives will carry on until M36. Objective 4 - Automatic adaptation to user’s emotional and physical state. The mechanisms for adapting the system to the user’s state will be designed and implemented. By employing censoring technology, the user’s emotional and physical state will be assessed and the system will adjust the presentation style based on the determined present state. The objective will be achieved by M24. Continouous refinement through evaluation of the objectives will carry on until M36. Objective 5 - Knowledge assisted personalized user interfaces. The reasoning mechanisms for personalized user interfaces will be designed and implemented. Based on knowledge about eachindividual user and the context of the educational environment, the reasoning mechanism will adopt the user interface to fit the individual user’s profile. The objective will be achieved by M24. Continouous refinement through evaluation of the objectives will carry on until M36. Objective 6 - Integration into educational environments. The assistive reading technology software will be integrated into school environments, resulting into an accommodative learning environment which accounts for the interaction with normal and dyslexic children, the teacher and assistants. The objective will be achieved by M36. |
